After some years of commuting within my love triangle, Bournemouth being home, Bristol for work and Swindon to visit my partner, I decided to throw caution to the wind, reduce my carbon footprint and relocate to Swindon in 2019.
During my travels, I visited Lydiard Park and became somewhat bewitched by the house and church. Having developed an interest in both history and archaeology over the years, I wanted to learn more. That coupled with wanting to meet new people, I took the plunge and became a Friend of Lydiard Park and went along to their Christmas Party. Unfortunately, soon after, lockdown began and thus ended my intentions!
Thankfully this year, I seem to be making up for lost time. I have met some fascinating friends, made connections and am looking forward to taking a larger part in the work of the charity and sharing all things Lydiard with the wider community.
Friends of Lydiard Park stall, Heritage Open Days, 2021
Jo joined a group members manning the Friends of Lydiard Park stall over Heritage Open Days in September – just one of several voluntary roles that members can get involved with. In the Walled Garden historic food interpreter, Lucy, demonstrated some 17th century recipes and remedies which would have been familiar to the Lady of the Manor, Johanna St.John while Jo and her fellow volunteers chatted with local families, giving out our free family fun trails around the park and encouraging new members to join.
