By joining the Friends of Lydiard Park you will be part of a large sociable group helping to ensure that this important part of our local and national heritage is more widely recognised, enjoyed and preserved for future generations.
We welcome your interest in Lydiard whether that’s in history, art and architecture, gardens and the natural environment, or simply because you love visiting the park.
Benefits
By supporting the Friends of Lydiard Park you are helping the survival of this lovely country estate and local treasure. The park is a green lung for Swindon. Every year 800,000 people enjoy its countryside walks, woodland and lakeside views. Together, the house with much of its original contents, the surrounding historic landscape and Church of St. Mary’s, offer a unique heritage asset that any town or city would be proud of.
The Friends concern is the preservation, enhancement and promotion of Lydiard Park. We champion Lydiard in good times and occasionally hard times, when threats to its integrity arise. By becoming a member you are strengthening Lydiard’s public support and enabling exciting projects in conservation, museum collecting, research and education to develop.
Thanks to member’s generous donations The Friends of Lydiard Park have been able to support a wide variety of projects at Lydiard House, St. Mary’s Church and the historic park. We have also helped acquire furnishings for the State Rooms, conserving important paintings and artefacts and contributing to conservation projects like the rehanging of the state bed in embroidered silk. In 2019 we were delighted to provide a new set of tools for Lydiard’s volunteer rangers.
However, there is much to be done and donations of any size will ensure our support for Lydiard continues.
One of the ways you can make a lasting difference to Lydiard House and Park is remembering The Friends of Lydiard Park in your will. This could be financially or through the bequest of an object or document of special interest to Lydiard, ensuring that it is preserved for the future.
It is thanks to a significant legacy that we have been able to fund the St. Mary’s Church Conservation Project, but all amounts are very much welcomed and can be dedicated to your area of interest. If you would like to consider making a legacy or bequest please do get in touch.
